Windows 2000 Taskbar

Can anybody tell me how to remove items from the taskbar, out of 17 icons only 2 are listed in Taskbar and Startup menu?

generally one right clicks the task bar and either selects options or toolbars and sets it from there, hope that helps.

I presume that you mean that you want to reduce the number of programs that launch on startup. In other versions of Windows there is msconfig to do this.

click here is msconfig that works with W2K.

Start, run, type in

and click OK.

Go to the Startup tab and untick the programs that you do not want.

click here for a list of what all these programs are.

After you've downloaded the msconfig.exe file from VoG's link, you can either double click it to use it, or if you want to use it from "Start, Run,...", I suggest you move or copy the file to the C:\WINNT\system32 folder (You could also move it to C:\ or C:\WINNT\system).

Or use Mike Lin's Startup Control Panel, a little more flexible for managing startup items click here (but msconfig would still be helpful with other functions).
