WIN98 Startup problem please look

Thanks for looking

when i boot my pc i get the Win98 logo Screen with the scrolling bar underneath then the bar stops and in a command prompt it says

c:\> REM [MOUSE]


c:\> mode con codepage prepare = (850) c:\windows\command\ega.cpi
program to big to fit in memory

memory allocation error
cannot load command, sysmtem halted

Anyone any ideas

Hi danny0001uk. Windows 98 doesn't need AUTOEXEC.BAT or CONFIG.SYS, and these only run in case there is a DOS based function that is wanted before Windows is loaded. In the messages you have quoted, some of the AUTOEXEC.BAT commands have had REM added to them to tell your computer that they are only comments (REMarks), and are to be ignored. Use notepad to open AUTOEXEC.BAT. save it as AUTOEXEC.OLD, just so you can reuse it in future, then put REM at the beginning of any lines that don't already have it, and save the file as AUTOEXEC.BAT.
