win98 error on start up

Asus P4P800 mobo. P4 2.6
Whilst doing a clean install of win 98, after the installation and the reboot I get an error message
"Whilst initialising device NDIS;
Windows protection error. You need to restart yor computer"

Have had this using two separate copies of win98 with a hard drive format before installation.

Anyone know what might be causing this?

Looks like a driver problem.

Found the problem in the MS KB eventually. seems that it is due to trying to run Win98 with a processor faster than 2.2Ghz. A fix is available from MS but as usual it isn't available as an on line download. Have to pay for MS support and they might, just might refund you if the specific update will resolve the problem.
