win xp home laptop won't boot

  rsturbo 15:32 05 May 2003

i get the following message "windows NT has not found enough extended memory. 7mb of extended memory is required to run windows NT. you may need to upgrade your computer or run a configuration program provided by the manufacturer"
has been working fine for 6 months is a good spec machine no problems before.
i would like to recover data prior to anything drastic, but would appreciate any help.
thanks for any help offered.
