Win XP- Address Book corrupt

  [DELETED] 10:09 23 Apr 2006

Does anybody know how to reinstate the Address Book? Error message in outlook says 'unable to find WAB.DLL' and Outlook Express informs of error in loading and to reload application. I have the XP and SP2 discs. I have tried reloading OE to no avail.

Try Start/Run/type sfc /scannow (watch the space) hit enter. You will need your XP CD

If you've installed the recent batch of windows updates its possible that KB911567 is causing your problem. Uninstall it from Add or Remove Programs to see if it resolves the problem. If it does, disable Automatic Updates meantime otherwise the update will be installed again the next time Automatic Updates is due to run. Its likely a new update will be issued at some point.

Uninstalling the Update will leave your computer vulnerable to the original security exploit. Details of KB911567 click here

From the Microsoft article :

"If a user is logged on with administrative user rights, an attacker who successfully exploited this vulnerability could take complete control of an affected system. An attacker could then install programs; view, change, or delete data; or create new accounts with full user rights. Users whose accounts are configured to have fewer user rights on the system could be less impacted than users who operate with administrative user rights."

If you're logged on with administrative user rights it might be worth considering using DropMyRights click here
