A friend has a win98SE full CD and windows 98 on his computer does he have to format the c drive and install the Win98 SE on a clean drive or is there a way to install on top of the existing Win98
No need to format, just install over the top,
Backup your work etc first though....
I was under the impression that a full version had to have a clean drive and that only an upgrade version could be installed on top of an existing version
You will need to format first as Smiler says. Full install disks rarely can be used as an upgrade disk.
Ooops, looks like I was wrong. I was sure that I just did a reinstall. Sorry!
If you installed using a Full Install disk then you can do a repair install over the top with a Full install disk (as long as its the same version (ie Win98SE over Win98SE).However to upgrade from 98 to 98SE you need an upgrade disk.
Like AubreyS, I think I did an install over the top of an existing Win 9x. The only problem was I had to reinstall all the applications as well and it was unstable.I'd go with Smiler and Jester2K II and format.
Thanks for your help I'll let you know how he gets on with it later
Just to let you know my friend had to format the drive before installing win98 SE full version. Thanks again
