Win 7 ultimate w/sp1 boot issue

I have win 7 ultimate on my desktop and recently when I turn it on it takes a long time to boot up and fails to initialize the sound driver or the lan connection. I find that the only cure is to, at minimum, restart the computer from the START globe at bottom left of screen. Simply logging off and back on or changing user does not get the lan connection back. It still shows a red x in the LAN icon on bottom right of screen. I´m running Win 7 Ultimate w/ SP1 on a 64bit machine. I also have some updates that fail to install. Specifically 2018-02 Monthly rollup KB4074598. Anyone have a fix? I have original program DVD but it is 6 or 7 years old and before SP1 or thousands of updates.

Guys, thanks for responses. I managed to get a program called EaseUS Partition Master and it seems to have solved my problems. I managed to create some unallocated space next to my system partition and then extend it. My back up and shadow copy now work
