Win 7 - occasional problems accessing raid disks

  Tim 16:38 28 Jan 2010

I have two Raid 1 disk arrays (One for the system and one for data) on a Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD3R motherboard using the Intel Matrix Raid system. I run Windows 7 64 bit.

I have experienced a few occasions where a program has frozen whilst trying to access the disks (saving, moving, copying or deleting files). Frequently when this happens, Windows 7 itself is also affected and I cannot close the affected program window or shut down the computer properly. When this happens I usually end up having to go through the Intel ‘Verifying and Repairing’ process for the raid arrays.

The fault has the appearance of Windows 7 losing contact with one or more of the raid disk arrays.

I do not know if it is related, but I have also noticed several times, especially when in Windows Explorer that it can take several seconds for a disk to respond when I want to open a folder on a drive.

Has anybody any suggestions?
