Win 32 Error

  leedsafc 21:34 01 Dec 2006

Approximately 10 mins after boot up my pc shuts down with the message "cannot find windows system 32 config sys." Am i correct in assuming this may be a trojan. This occurred when i was prompted to upgrade my AVG virus to the latest version. I was ill advised to install Mcaffee instead but foolishly i did it before i unistalled AVG. I am running Win XP Home and i have tried a system restore without success. Any suggestions please.

Thanks for the very useful advice. Unfortunately i do not have the Win XP disc as it was installed by the system builder and he did not provide any recovery discs. Looks like i will have to fork out and do a clean install!

navigate to c:\windows\repaircopy the system file to c:\windows\system32\config
it should then boot ok however you may need to reinstall updates.
