win 2000 explorer crashes in print properties

  TechieTone 11:36 01 Sep 2004

When right clicking any Printer and choosing Properties in windows 2000 it crashes bringing up explorer.exe error message. In DrWatson it claims 'access violation c0000005 in explorer.exe'. It claims it is in NT authority/system directory'. Filemon utility doesn't help really and event viewer only says 'shell had to close and explorer restarted'. I am logged on as administrator and connected to network printers using Client32 for Novell.

You may need to increase your Page Filing?
To do this:
1) Control Panel/Systems/tab Advanced click button Settings
2) In the Performance Options window click tab Advanced/Frame Virtual Memory/Button Change
3) You can increase Paging File up to leave 500 MB free space unused needed for operating Systems Files.

When working with large files it is best to close all programs you are not using, this help take the strain off your CPU and releases more RAM.

thanks recap,

This didn't solve my problem but I found a solution when entering the problem in Google and a similar problem was cured by using Shell Ex viewer to turn off the offending Shell extension. It worked!
