I was having some problems with my PC and repaired it from a backup. It is now asking me to activate it. I have a valid key but before I even get to that it says Windows cannot activate error 0x80070422.
That code is usually a windows update error. Make sure windows update is set to automatic
Open Task Manager and Click Service - Click Open Services -Search Click Windows Update - Select Automatic - Click Apply - Click OK.
Thanks, I click services but there is no "open services" or "Windows update" option.
Try running sfc /scannow as administrator to see if it finds and fixes any faults.
Or maybe try Control Panel. Troubleshooting.and click on fix problems with windows updates.
If you open task manager then the services tab - at the bottom you should see 'Open services' link in blue text. In services check Windows Update is set to manual (trigger start).
It seems your computer isn't reaching Microsoft's servers.
Try following method two here (if you've run the troubleshooter) Microsoft community .
Thanks Dave that has fixed it.
Thank you for the feedback bumkin. Seems more and more thread starters here seem to abandon their threads and don't bother to give a feedback (good or bad) to a suggestion made :(
