Will reformatting laptop speed it up

  spotthebraincell 08:02 16 Sep 2015

We have a laptop that runs very slow and wonder if reformatting it would help. If so, how do I go about doing it? We have transferred everything we need onto a new laptop. Thanks

Which laptop and what operating system? Some have a built in restore partition, others need the Windows or manufacturers disk.

Reformatting using the built in partition or manufacturers disk is easy as they include all required drivers.

A 'raw' reinstall using the Windows disk is a bit more problematical as drivers have to be found from various (usually the manufacturer's) websites.

Oh, and yes - a reformat usually makes a big difference - I do all my PCs once a year!

thanks onthelimit1 it's an Advent Monza E1 running Windows 7. It was a shop soiled one and didn't come with any disks. How do I find out if it has a built in restore partition?

See Para 2 here.
