Wifi broadband

I am currently on a dial-up connection and would like to go Broadband but I don't think it's enabled in my area.

Is this what Wifi is designed to get round?

From what I can see, Wifi allows you to use PC's/laptops anywhere in the home. I only have one fixed PC so don't need to be able to move around my home - I just need to get Broadband into the home in the first instance.

Presumably, if Wifi is appropriate, I cannot keep my current ISP or e-mail address?

Any advice welcome, thanks.

If you are 'lucky' and live near a hotspot you could use it in this way. Very expensive, though.
