i have done all that needs to be done to get my speedtouch usb adsl modem to run under mandrake 9.1

eg downloaded the drivers and put the microcode in /usr/share/speedtouch

however i still cant connect

when i log in as root and type cat /proc/bus/usb/devices

i get this

T: Bus=02 Lev=00 Prnt=00 Port=00 Cnt=00 Dev#= 1 Spd=12 MxCh= 2
B: Alloc= 0/900 us ( 0%), #Int= 0, #Iso= 0
D: Ver= 1.00 Cls=09(hub ) Sub=00 Prot=00 MxPS= 8 #Cfgs= 1
P: Vendor=0000 ProdID=0000 Rev= 0.00
S: Product=USB UHCI Root Hub
S: SerialNumber=b400
C:* #Ifs= 1 Cfg#= 1 Atr=40 MxPwr= 0mA
I: If#= 0 Alt= 0 #EPs= 1 Cls=09(hub ) Sub=00 Prot=00 Driver=hub
E: Ad=81(I) Atr=03(Int.) MxPS= 8 Ivl=255ms
T: Bus=01 Lev=00 Prnt=00 Port=00 Cnt=00 Dev#= 1 Spd=12 MxCh= 2
B: Alloc= 0/900 us ( 0%), #Int= 0, #Iso= 0
D: Ver= 1.00 Cls=09(hub ) Sub=00 Prot=00 MxPS= 8 #Cfgs= 1
P: Vendor=0000 ProdID=0000 Rev= 0.00
S: Product=USB UHCI Root Hub
S: SerialNumber=b000

E: Ad=81(I) Atr=03(Int.) MxPS= 8 Ivl=255ms

the modem doesnt appear anywere

my scanner was working ok, until i took it out to avoid confusion so i know the usb ports are ok as i have also had my digital camera working under mandrake.

the modem runs fine in windows so it is not the modem.

how can i get the mandrake to see the usb modem as if this was done it would connect no problem

i have had so much help from paul but we are both stuck can anyone else lend a hand?

Which file are you placing in the /usr/share/speedtouch folder?

  Linus Tourvalds 20:59 18 Sep 2003

mgmt.o but i had to change it to the /usr/local/lib

and change the path in the speedtouch.config

as when i typed whereis mgmt.o

it gave no response but now its in the /usr/local/lib

it shows up

  powerless 21:01 18 Sep 2003

"mgmt.o but i had to change it to the /usr/local/lib"

Why?

I think that is your problem.

  powerless 21:03 18 Sep 2003

oh i see.

It wont cause a problem as long as speedtouch.conf is edited to show the correct path,

  powerless 21:15 18 Sep 2003

So the problem is why wont it copy the file to /usr/share/speedtouch folder?

" It wont cause a problem as long as speedtouch.conf is edited to show the correct path, " - Another edit to be made that has not been?

Although its mainly gobbledigook there is a clear mention of speedtouch in there. The problem with this particular modem seems to be Mandrake just isnt seeing it and powering it as there are no lights on it.
