which laptop is best

  wwfc 11:21 18 Jul 2007

i've been looking to buy a laptop and want to know if i am buying the right one (budget £500)
the best i think is the Acer 4233wlmi offered by a number of websites at aroud £420 the spec is
core 2 duo T5500 (1.66G)
1 gb ram (upgrade to 2G for £80,is it worth it??)
160gb HD
intel 945gm 224mb graphics card
wireless 802.11abg
wingows vista home premium
5 in 1 card reader
4 usb
intergrated webcam
This seems to have a lot more oomph than anything on sale in the high street for £500 and costs around £150 less than simiar spec models on sale OR AM I MISSIN SOMETHING? any comments or other suggestions welcomed before i spend my cash (main use will be s-sheets/internet and photo storage-editing) not much gaming.

Looks a good buy to me, only real down side is the Intel 945gm 224mb graphics card (but if you don’t want it for gaming it should be good enough).

Don't think more memory will help much (with the graphic card anyway).

Besides if you do
£420 (before or after VAT)?
+£80 for the memory
You are now getting get into the price range where you could do better for a few pounds more.

i can get the same laptop (for a few quid more)with nVidia GeForce Go 7300 with TurboCache 256MB Shared System Memory, is this any better?

It's allot better graphics card, I would go for that over the memory.

Doubt you will do much better sub-£500.

Acer had that card on +£500 Laptops 6 months ago (and still do)

I got Acer Aspire 5103WLMi £449.97 inc VAT plus 3yr warranty including free bag and mouse £59.97

This deal included free upgrade from 1Gb mem to 2Gb. I chose this also because it came with Windows XP (Media Centre) and I had already decided that I didn't want Vista - not just yet anyway - as I have so much legacy software and peripherals that probably wouldn't be supported

Looks like I did the "click here" anyway - didn't realise it automatically converted the url for me. Ta.
