Which ethernet card?

I have an NTL cable modem connected via USB. I need to change the connection to an ethernet one but know nothing about ethernet cards. Looking online I can see cards ranging from £7.50 to over £200. Would a cheap one suffice for a 600k connection?

A standard 10/100 card would be fine for you; I have a preference for branded ones e.g. netgear / 3Com but it is a matter of choice. I just find that they can be configured easily.

Does your modem manucturer give any details of requirtements for a NIC?

I recently purchased a couple of U.S.Robotics cards from pc world, model no7900 and they work just fine.

Thanks Diodorus Siculus that helps a lot. I have looked but could find nothing relating to specific requirements on the NTL help pages.
I did try phoning their technical helpline but I was kept waiting so long in the end I gave up. I have therefore e-mailed them.

Thanks again
