Where can I find a fan for my northbridge chip?

  Bailey08787 17:17 31 Jul 2006

The northbridge fan on my MSI K8N Diamond motherboard has died on me.

I went out and bought a nifty blue passive zalman cooler, only to realise that there was not enough room for it due to my SLI configuration.

Now I'm having trouble finding a northbridge fan - can only find the passive coolers that are too big.

Anybody know where I can get one?

These little fans don't seem to last very long. I've got through about 4 of them on my other PC, and the cost compared to bigger fans is out of all proportion. I think the chip is now playing up so I've decided to replace the motherboard with one that doesn't have a fan on the Northbridge chip.

I got one from Ebay. Search using the size.

none of the akasa ones mentioned have a plate to connect with the chip.

you can't just plonk a small 40mm fan on there without having a metal plate on the chip can u?

Why not? it's not a heatsink. You have one or the other. Not knowing but I would try sticking it on

A fan needs a way in for the air as well as one out so it's no good bang flat on the chip. It ether pulls air through it, or pushes it through
