There is a precedence given to arithmetic operators. Multiply and divide take precedence over add and subtract. So your scientific (so-called) calculator is correctly evaluating what would be better expressed as 1+(2*3)=7

Try getting a calculator that uses REverse Polish Notation (Hewlett Packard used to make them). Then you can't go wrong.2Enter3Multiply1Plus

Depends where you put the parenthesis(without VoG is right) with,could go either way.:-)
