what op system for an old 386 computer
just been given a 386 computer will it run windows nt, if not what i can i run on it, i know its old but its for word processingf etc
Win 3.11, or if it's got enough RAM (32Mb - maybe at a pinch 16Mb) - then try Win95
Some of the Linux Distributions do not need much in the way of resorces.
I used to dual boot Windows 95 with Word from Office 97 and Linux on a machine with 8 Meg of ram.
MS says W95 will run on a 386DX based machine with a minimum 8MB RAM, I would think it would be pretty slow though. http: // support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;132748 remoe the spaces each side of the //
Go with Win3.11 if you only want a wordprocessor / basic internet browsing - early versions of Netscape ran well enough on a 386 which I had in the early 90's and I have a feeling that these can still be found.
any one know where to find windows 3.11 its before my time
dos,win3.11 and red hat 5 and a few other linux distro,s
and os2 warp and dr dos
I live in Staines near Heathrow
I think I may have a set of 3.1 disks in my loft but will have to check. I am in Guildford which is q. near you. I will check tomorrow.
