I was just on a desktop wallpaper site and when I clicked on a picture up popped a window saying updating system. I closed the net but when I checked startup progs. I found MSMGT.EXE. I unticked it on startup, restarted and deleted the prog. Can any of you good folks tell me what it is please. many thanks in advance. Andy

Certainly looks like spyware Andy. Have you got rid? run a search to see and do you have a firewall? expand HKEY_LOCAL MACHINE/Software Microsoft Windows Current Version and finally click on
Run. Listed in the right pane you will see the startup items, including
MSMGT. With RUN selected choose Registry / Export Registry file and save the
key in a file - say MSMGT_Saved or similar. Then delete the MSMGT entry by
highlighting it and choosing Edit / Delete.

Reboot and see if its still there

Many thanks to you both. I see it seems to be common on porn and file sharing but I was given the damn thing on a desktop wallpaper site. I can only presume it came via one of the many pop-ups. As soon as I saw the wee window appear I turned off the net so as it was running the progress bar to update my system, it imediately went when I closed the net. I have now ran Ad-aware and checked for any new file/folder created between 17th and 18th. Also the usual search of my computer and there;s no sign of it. Perhaps with me closing the net it didn't get time to fully install. once again, thanks very much for your help. cheers. Andy.
