What to look for in a laptop

I wish to buy a laptop for a few very specific uses.

1) To download RAW images between 7mB and 10mB from my compact flash card.

2) To convert RAW images to JPEGs using RAW Shooter Essentials.

3) Some digital enhancing of images using photoshop, though nothing complex, as I would do this on my PC.

4) Display resulting images as a slideshow of maximum 40 images.

Which features of a laptop do people consider most desirable?
Is there any significant difference between Intel and AMD in laptops?
Is any brand considered superior by quality as opposed to by brand name?
Is duel core a significant benefit?
Is a graphics card necessary or a luxury in this situation?

A dual core processor is significant and the latest in laptop processor technology.

What about the Intel Core Duo or Amd Turion x2 for laptops. Excellent processors enhancing the digital life of your computer and making it handle high demanding applications.

A Graphics card is very important and a good one will go well with a dual core processor , Nvidia or ATI.

I have an Acer Aspire and would say that since they have brought out their dual core Intel range with the latest ATI Graphics cards they are excellent quality.

Have a look at some of them on Comet

The ACER AS5672WLMI-165 looks a good shout. I'll take a look at one in the store before buying. The name's a bit of a mouthful - I wouldn't want to remember it!!

even with a 512mb dedicated ATI Graphics card, I would certainly go for it
