What does "Could not perform Start Track" mean?

  Jim W. 17:11 04 Apr 2010

My new Samsung laptop will not copy home DVDs with Nero 9 (no problem on an older laptop, with same Nero 9). I get "could not perform Start Track" message on failure, but it plays on the laptop, but not in a DVD player. What's the problem?
Many thanks for any advice.

Have you got or had Roxio on your machine?

Nero and Roxio do not mix you will have to be sure Roxio is completely uninstalled to overcome this problem in Nero.

Thanks for that Fruit Bat. However, I do not have Roxio on the computer. While not finalised, the copy plays in Windows Media Player with sound, but without sound in Nero!
I have tried another type of DVD without success.
Any more clues?
Thanks again,

"While not finalised"

It will not play in a stand alone DVD player until finalised.

"the copy plays in Windows Media Player with sound, but without sound in Nero!"

Nero player probably does not have the correct codec to play it.

Thanks again. Useful link. I have just looked at the Nero 9 box, and seen, to my surprise, that it is Vista ready. My new computer has Windows 7. I will contact Nero about downloading an appropriate version - they sold me an out of date box!
