hi, Just got a new external HDD, backed up my music and photo's on it...a total of about 95000 files, but can now find no way of getting to them, so first, is a back up the same as using it for storage, if i open the E drive the files start with Arc Nbo.NBZ, Which to me, means nothing..thanks for any pointers....

Not sure how you have done it. My route is to simply use xp to copy from your C drive to your E drive and in my case it appears as a normal file for opening. You may have used a compression approach rather than simple copy to.??

The NTFS arrangement is generally regarded as the most efficient file form for larger discs particularly those on XP. click here

When I got my external HDD I reformatted for that reason.
