I have wanadoo broadband with an ADSL modem. I wnt to connect another PC. It is at a bit of a distance but are wired routers better/much cheaper or should i pick a wireless router?

How far away is "a bit of a distance".

Both options have distance limits.

Its only about 30ft but am happy to deal with the wires if that is the better option.

at that distance there's no problem with either - unless you live in a castle and the 30ft includes a 6ft thick wall! My preference is for wireless - which gives you more freedom and flexibility.
