Voice software for a blind person

  Dirty Dick 19:14 14 Feb 2010

Just found out from a friend that she has been diagnosed with an illness that will result in her evventually losing her sight.

I said i would ask on the forum if anyone could recommend any software that will read what is on the screen, so she can still use her PC. She wants to set something up while she still has some sight, so she can get used to it.

Thanx DD

Not having used any of these I cannot make any actual recommendations ...

I can recommend Dolphin Guide - very comprehensive software for those with restricted vision. You can get a trial version free which runs for 30 days

Depending on the OS then Vista and Windows 7 has a section called Ease of Access. It has speech recognition and Visual optimisation etc. Have never used it but worth a look.

May I suggest you contact the Royal National Institute for the Blind (RNIB) whose website is at click here and who would be the best people to help your friend.

All the very best.
