Vista won't start

Vista won't start, repair function tells me, "corruptBootConfigData", is ther a way of repairing the disk using chkdsk or similar. It tells me it can't run chkdsk because the disc is being used be another program. If I put the hard drive into another PC, I am told the disc is RAW.

All suggestions welcome.

Bboot from the Vista DVD, follow this guide

at the command prompt run the <fixboot> and <fixmbr> commands (without the <>).

Do I change the prompt to show the c drive so the prompt reads C:\>. I tried both commands but error says, 'fixmbr' is not recognised as an internal or external command.
