virus affecting scandisc

  ancel 00:10 12 Mar 2003

Hi all Im running windows 98 with Zone Alarm Pro Panda anti virus Ghost Surf Spam Killer and Ad Subtract.
When I try to run Scandisc a pesky programme writes to disc-defrag works.
When this happened before it was the start of virus problems-undetected by Norton anti virus.
Can I hunt this pest down.
How do I remove it?.

Have you scandisced in safemode so nothing else in running in b/g to interrupt?

I ve seen safe mode mentioned often in virus instructions-how do I operate scandisc in safe mode?.

I am busy doing that right now on my other computer, Norton is giving me problems. Start up computer, wait for screen with message at the bottom and press F5 for safemode, then do Scandisk in System Tools. Cheers

Yes it did run scandisc in safe mode.
How can I find the programme that is writing to the hard disc-and-how can I delete it if the delete option is denied

Don't just always run in SAFE MODE.
