The hour glass on the cursor will not go away, and I cannot open any of my desktop programmes. Access to the internet is only through outlook.

Win xp.

Try running your antivirus in safe mode; click here

As you've given no detail that's the best answer I can suggest.

Could also be a broken file in the OS; try sfc /scannow or some software loading which is hogging the CPU.

As rdave13 says, a bit more information would be helpful.

Which curser are you referring to?

Do you have Service Pack two , or even Service Pack Three installed?

what is your Antivirus program? What other protection do you have and when did you last fully update all of it and run full computer scans?

What Browser do you use

eg Internet Explorer, Firefox....

I'm not sure which service pack.
I use i explorer.
Its the mouse cursor.
None of my anti-virus programmes can be activated.

I have sygate firewall, spybot and avg, every thing updated.
