Video compression for emails

I want to send some family videos to friends but the files are far too big. How do I compress them? I have heard of MPEG4 but know little about it or how you use it.

I've been using the H264 technology to compress MPEG2 recordings from my Twinhan Freeview PCI TV cards to store on CDs or DVDs. See:

using this freeware:

This compresses a 1.10GB MPEG2 file to around 180MB with no loss of quality...:-)

The compression takes remarkably little time to accomplish.

If you friends use QuickTime7 they will already have the H264 codec.

The example given, a 1.10GB MPEG2 file, runs for about 35 minutes in this form.

Mpeg2 is better For large screen than Mpeg4. Mpeg4 makes a very small file you pay for it at the end with video quality degradation. But it's better for E-Mails
