video capture/ graphics card

From a novice.....I am thinking about buying a capture device either internal or external to have a go at preserving some of my old videos on DVD to play back on a stand alone player.
Can anybody tell me will the quality of my graphics card affect the quality of the CAPTURED footage or does this only affect the quality of playback on the PC.
I am not a great gamer and my card is only a GEForce2 MX100/200 so can I get away with just buying a good quality capture device or do I need to upgrade my graphics card as well ( possibly to one that can provide capture facilities)?

regards Rob
