Can anyone help?

My laptop is very slow in starting up. It literally takes 5 mins to boot up to a stage where it is ready to use. Once there, it seems ok, speed wise.
It has a decent size memory, processor etc but takes ages to get through the intial start up procedures.
I have got McAffee downloaded on it amongst other things (noting excessive) and all of this with a Microsoft XP platform.
Any ideas what I can do ??????

try RUN > MSCONFIG > STARTUP tab and uncheck any items that you do not need to run at startup (be careful to only uncheck items you can recognize). This can sometimes have a dramatic effect on startup speed.

Laptops are a bit slow with XP and only a 4.200rpm drive. only thing you can do is as above. Use MSCONFIG and remove programs that do not need to start at boot
