I have 4 devices at home and connected by home network. If I use VPN on one laptop would it automatically apply itself to the other 3. I only want to employ it in one of my laptops. Thanks for any info.

No, it wouldn't.

If you were to configure your home router for the VPN service then that would affect all connected devices.

I'm using ExpressVPN it is one of the Fastest VPN that I have ever used. I would highly recommend if you don't want to comprise your internet speed while using a VPN, Express VPN is the right choice for this purpose.

PS Don't use the built in Opera Browser VPN, it is useless.

If I discovered someone was using a VPN, I would wonder why

The suspicion would be that one was trying to hide your activity, whatever it was

In places like China, you need a vpn to avoid the great firewall. I think they are clamping down on their use, but without one, Google, WhatsApp etc are blocked.
