Is using 'Repair' on XP/Vista CD a good idea?

  buel 12:05 16 May 2010

Hi, i've helped a friend out by speeding up his laptop as best as i can (with lots of help from the brilliant helpers on here), i was just curious about whether using the 'repair' option on an XP CD i have would benefit this laptop at all? Am i right in thinking that if there are any Windows registry errors that this would fix them?
Sorry for my naiveity!

you only need to do a repair install if the machine will not boot.

To replace missing or corrupt windows files use

sfc /scannow press OK

To repair registry errors safely use the registry option in CCleaner (safest method) other registry cleaners can be too aggressive and give more problems than they solve
