Using Netgear DG834G as Access point.

I'm wanting to use a Netgear DG834G router as an access point to extend the range of my wireless network.

I'm not computer savvy and haven't a clue where to start.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just put in the Setup CD and follow the instructions, had no trouble myself and I am only a small step above beginner.

I already have a existing DG834G router providing a wireless connection. However i have a second router i want to connect to my first router to extend its wireless range.

I have managed to connect a DG834GT to another DG834GT but only with wireless security switched off. (Obviously NOT a recommended solution, although you could setup and Access control list that will only allow specific MAC addresses to connect to your network wirelessly)

I have seen posts that state that WPA cannot be used with WDS, i have tried to use WEP at both 64 and 128 (open and automatic), no joy.

First of all i upgraded the firmware, available at Netgear. Once upgraded you will have an advanced wireless settings menu. Knowledge base article click here will explain how to do this.

If anyone finds out how to connect these securely, please let us know.

I just realised that i have assumed you want to extend your network without having to run cat5 between your router and your DG834g router/access point.
