using linksys laptp adaptor with freeserve livebox

i have been using freeserve broadband using the wireless livebox with an inventel usb connector in my laptop. as the usb connector is on a metre length cable i have bought a linksys notebook card to replace it.

it now connects to the livebox but:
a)it loses internet connection after a few minutes
b) the connection rate is only 11mbps compared to 54mbps shown on the usb connector.
c) the connection quality is low within 10feet of the livebox whereas there are no problems with the usb upstairs in the back bedroom.

are these two incompatible? or is it something else?
i am a novice.

I don't know Freeserve/Wanadoo's wireless livebox kit and its associated settings.
But to help others who do know, please also post the make and specific models of the wireless kit you have;
> Inventel USB (wireless?) adapter.
> Linksys Laptop Card.

11Mbps sounds like 802.11b speed (12Mbps) ~ have you set the Linksys laptop card to run on 802.11b ratherm then 802.11g (54Mbps)?
