Uses for Excel

  Graham ® 09:56 21 May 2006

Someone asked recently what use was Excel. I can't find the thread, but my main use is to keep a record of Direct Debits. I have 11 of these at the moment, fuel, telephone, TV license etc.

I find it handy to freeze the panes and tick them off (I use a Y) when my bank statement arrives.

I don't need to manipulate the data, but Excel gives an easy to read format - you can use different colours if you wish.

I recently discovered how to use this little calendar control thingy click here

Here's an example screenshot click here

And here's the code that goes with it

Private Sub Calendar1_Click()
Dim MyDate As Date, Found As Range
MyDate = Calendar1.Value
Set Found = Sheets("Main").Columns(2).Find(MyDate)
If Found Is Nothing Then
Exit Sub
End If
Range(Found.Offset(0, -1), Found.Offset(0, 4)).Select
End Sub

Private Sub cmdClose_Click()
Unload Me
End Sub

Private Sub UserForm_Activate()
With Me
.Left = Application.Width - .Width
.Top = 0
End With
End Sub

I'll download the program, thanks. Dunno about the code :-)

OK, followed the instructions up to Registering the Control. So I have to tackle the code now? Step by step, please.

I've had my sausage sandwich, it's raining and both cats are asleep, so I'll have a go.

The Toolbox is greyed out.

Do you mean on the View menu?

OK, you need to insert a Userform first. Insert > Userform. View > Toolbox should now be available.

Got it!

One other thing,
'Make the following changes in the Properties Window...'

Name: frmCalendar

Caption: Select a Date

I've changed the name, but there's no heading for Caption.
