Used Can of air+now fan not working?

  buel 17:42 11 Feb 2011

Last night i used a can of compressed air on my gf's laptop (it was turned off) and there was quite a lot of dust that blew out. Since then the laptop has turned itself off quite a few times and i can not hear the fan at all whereas it used to be on a lot of the time.
Please can anyone tell me have i done some damage?

Whenever I clean my desktop, I always hold the fan from spinning when blowing the compressed air through, as it can spin too quickly and can get damaged.
If its turning off it sounds like its overheating.

You could try suction next from the vacuum cleaner, but perhaps it is time for skilled hands to open the case.

It is possible either to have jammed the fan with a flying clot of felted dust, or damaged something with a misjudged poke from the tubing.

Hi again,
just an update: After the fan stopped working for 5 days (and the laptop turning itself off after every few hours), yesterday it suddenly started working again.
Im guessing that this supports Giemmess's theory of dust blocking the fan?
