Is USB2.0 compatible with USB1.1?

I am about to buy an external harddisk for my laptop (P4 at 1.8MHz, 256RAM, Windows XP +SP1), I was wondering if the ones that sell with USB2.0 are backwards compatibles with USB1.1, and if that is going to affect the perfomance too much.
thanks

No problem, USB2.0 back compatible with USB1.0
would sooner upgrade and have the USB2.for speed.

it is but it will work at USB 1.1 speeds and a maxium 480Mbs to a maximum 11Mbs is quite a drop in speed.

How do I upgrade if I have laptop, is that possible?
Thanks

You should be able to get a PC-Card with USB2 ports.
