USB memory stick not recognised

Hi Guys

Having problems with a USB memory stick, it is not recognised by my PC. I tried a neighbours and a friends, same problem.
Any ideas how I can get the data off the stick, or how to get the PC to recognise it, it has two years worth of Uni stuff on it, which cannot afford to loose, and don't say I should have backed it up, have heard that from my parents already.
I know the USB port on my PC is fine, other memory sticks are found when they are attached.

A long-shot, but try re-booting the PC with the Stick already in the USB slot.

Tried this, no joy.

Hmm, not too encouraging. However, although I have never used this program, or any program like it, this I believe might be the answer, even though it is not Free. To recover two years work, must be worth a small payment ...

Good luck.
