USB Hard Drive lost connection

  croaly 19:59 23 Aug 2008

I moved my usb connection for my external hard drive from my desk top to my lap top and received a power surge message on my lap top

I moved the connection back to my desk top and while the hard drive still operates when I switch it on it will not connect to my desk top

My desk top does not recognise that the drive is connected. I have tried the other USB ports and still nothing

Any ideas on how I fix this one?

Is the drive viewable in device manager?

Or My Computer?

Remove the drive from the USB caddy and fit it as a Slave in your computer, the MBR is corrupt with you not doing a Safe Remove Hardware. If you can do the above and the drive shows in Computer Right Click the Drive\Properties\Tools\Check Disc tick box to Auto Fix faults

Visible in disk management?

you may have damage the ide? / sata? to usb board in the drive case.

Maybe you can remove the drive from the case and fit into a new case / convertor and retrieve your data
