USB Flash Drives

This months PC Advisor included an article about security issues with USB ports and drives. I'm afraid it went over my head. I use several of these drives to store folders in My Documents plus a few images and articles downloaded from the Internet. Am I at risk or was the article aimed at people that are on large Networks? How can my USB ports be attacked?
