USB cables...max length

  zinnie 20:46 30 May 2006

has anybody out there any idea what is the maximum length that I can have a USB cable to drive my printer.
I know they make USB cables 5m in length but is that the maximum that can be effectively used.

Probably find cheaper outlets than Maplins with a little Googling.

Your question, the length is restricted by power loss and for a unassisted cable this is 5 mtrs. As above you can use a active cable or use a powered hub.

It probably depends on the quality of cable, where it's used and what for.

Your problem may be in finding a very long cable.
You can use hubs to join lengths together.
