usb 2 adapter ? Is it compatible with my pc ?

  shanklyn 11:47 09 Nov 2006

Sorry this may seem like an easy question. I have purchased 2 new Acer laptops and am looking at buying a wireless router/modem but I also need a usb wireless usb adapter as I want to run an old windows 98se pc in the network also.

The router I was looking at includes a free usb 2 adapter, will this work with my old pc which is usb 1 ?

thanks in advance

It should, but there is a speed drop with USB1.

Yes, it will work but the speed will be restricted to the 12Mbps limitation of USB 1.1

You can, of course connect the old Win 98SE PC by ethernet cable, they don't all need to connect "wirelessly". Also bear in mind that, when multiple computers connect wirelessly, the available bandwidth of 54Mbps (which in practice will be nearer 30Mbps) is *SHARED* by the connections.
