urgent help with hdd phoenix award bios

i was given a pc from the college where i work but unfortunately it was password protected so i thought i will change the hdd in doing so was greeted with
phoenix-award bios v6.oopg,an energy star ally

press DEL to enter setup
so i put the old hdd back in and the same applies how can i put xp on to one of the hdd tried pressing DEL nothing happens whoops what have i done

Does the computer "beep" at all when starting up - if so the beep codes will help diagnose the fault.

Another thin, ensure you are using a ps2 keyboard as support for usb comes in a bit later in the start up process.

press DEL to enter setup

this is not a problem, enter setup, on the HDD page you will probably have an option to auto detect drives (usually F3) do it and then when it recognises your drive you need to save and exit (F10)

tried putting another hdd in and the machine is now bleeping for about eight seconds then stops for a couple of seconds then starts bleeping again
