Upgrading Dell Optiplex GX280

Hi everyone, i just bought my first Dell, a 2.8 ghz optiplex machine off ebay. however, it only has a CD rom drive, and i'm wishing to take that out and put in a dvdrw drive.

however, looking at the computer, it seems that it is a very narrow drive - will i be able to install a generic third party drive (ie a samsung one off ebuyer), or do i have to buy a proprietry one through dell and pay through the nose?

hope someone can help.

If the current drive is 40mm high, 150mm wide then any drive should fit.

no, it doesnt seem to be. it seems alot narrorwer than that.

Are you sure there's not a faceplate obscuring the actual front of the drive? And when you say narrow, are you talking width or height...which way is the drive slot positioned in the machine?

That is a narrow one then, you're probably better off looking for an external DVDRW, USB or something. click here
