as a complete newb to upgrading,i was wondering if this mobo ASROCK SOCKET 939 DUAL-SATA2/A/ASR 1000FSB

is compatible with this cpu AMD ATHLON 64 3500+ 512KB SOCKET-939 RETAIL .why i was confused is the processor has a fsb of 2000 when the mobo only has a 1000,would these work together

The AMD CPUs double the FSB speed, even the older Athlon jobs using 133mhz memory worked on `266`mhz FSB Athlons and Durons - post the full ASROCK model number and someone will be able to confirm.

The CPUspeed is the FSB x a multiplier and that's taken care of by the motherboard.
If you look at the specs of the mobo on the link you gave it says "Max. CPU Support : AMD Sempron 3000+, AMD Athlon 64 4000+, AMD Athlon X2 Dual-Core 4800+, AMD Athlon 64 FX-57" so the mobo will take a AMD Athlon 64 3500 no problem.
