Upgrade starts up slow

  talia 13:07 14 Jul 2003

I recently bought a Bare Bones Duron 1.3 system, XP, 30G HD/128 Ram.

It boost up okay but for the first 20mins from start it takes a couple of minutes to open up any selected application.

After the 20mins it runs fairly fast.

Any ideas??

Not sure of a definate reason for this but if you are running WinXP would seriously recommend you up your ram to 256Mb if poss.

some services if disabled in control panel/administrative tools/services can cause slow start ups.
click here and use the guide for safe and you should not have any problems.

also have a look in control panel/administrative tools/event viewer and see if any errors relating to services failing to start etc are listed here.

programs starting with windows can slow things down too.click start/run and type "msconfig" without the quotes.click on the start up tab and untick everything except antivirus and firewall. click here and use for reference if you are unsure what the program is.

also try bootvis click here this will also speed things up.
