Upgrade Slot1 CPU

  behrouzn 20:45 01 May 2003

I have a 550mhz P3 slot1 CPU, and want to upgrade to a 1.4ghz celeron (only £40!).

To do this, I have found a slot1/socket378 converter card, but have been told that my mo'bord might not support the new CPU. The motherboard is an MSI (model: ms-6183). I checked on the website, and for CPU support there is only n/a for all socket 378 CPUs.

What can I do????

I would suggest that your MOBO is very unlikely to support the 1.4 Celeron and your best bet is to purchase a new MOBO.

I don't think the slot/socket converter would be the correct one, as whilst they have been announced on web sites, I have never actually seen any that support FCPGA2 (Tualatin) processors (which is what the Celeron 1.4GHz is).

And from the CPU compatability chart your M/b wouldn't take it anyway.
