Upgrade Motherboard

  Steve Mat 21:15 02 Sep 2009

My son has an Acer Aspire T120E-8870 pc with an AMD Sempron 2800 2Ghz processor. The motherboard is a Gigabyte GA7S741M (Socket A).

I want to upgrade the motherboard & processor but I can't find any information on its form so that I can replace it with the correct size board.

I've searched the web and the Acer & gigabyte websites but I can't find any information on the board.

Can anyone help as to the size of baord I require or recommend a replacement.

Thanks in advance.

It's a micro ATX board.
If you have a normal case it should take ATX boards as well.

The case size is 180mm wide x 350mm high x 410mm deep. Is this 'normal' and can take an ATX?

Looking on Novatech a depth of 410mm seems to relate to micro atx cases with ATX ones being 495mm+.
click here will give you the size of an ATX board which is typically 305mm x 244mm.
Looks like you only have miro boards to choose from.If you want to be sure open the side of your case and see if there are extra screw mountings around the outside of the board to take an ATX case..

"to take an ATX case.."
Should read to take an ATX board.
