upgrade cpu from pentium 2

I have a fairly old pc that was built to allow for upgrades, it has a pentium 2 cpu i was wondering if it is possible to upgrade the cpu to a newer/faster processor and is it something i can do myself bearing in mind i am a bit of a novice or should i leave it to an expert,or is it just easier or cheaper to buy a new pc?cheers!!

i think with a processor so old, the mobo wouldn't support a much higher processor or this era. If you would upgrade, then it would have to be the mobo. Or just get a new pc like pamintacake says.
